Starting final year of university...

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

I know I've been gone for a while but I can say, I have been extremely busy!

The last blog post I wrote was about studying in a pandemic which was written in early May. At that time I was approaching the end of my second year at Bournemouth University and we were in a pandemic. We are still in a pandemic and I am now halfway through my final year at Bournemouth University.

So what have I been up to?

During the summer of my second year, I spent a little more time in Bournemouth before my second year ended. I invited my best friend down to Bournemouth for a couple of days where we had such a great time!! Such good memories :)

Shortly after when returning home, I undertook a journalism internship called Tie u Orja which was an online project creating original journalism by writing news and feature pieces and by editing multimedia content created by journalists and journalism students in Sierra Leone. My work was published on public-facing websites and actual news channels in Sierra Leone!

After summer

Once summer had ended, I had to make my way back to Bournemouth to complete my final year. We began in September and I can honestly say where has the time gone?!

Between September and now, I have completed my first assessment which was my major multimedia project. Due to my love and passion for TV and creating/editing videos, I decided to create a documentary for my project. My project was about my rare knee condition called Trochlear dysplasia and investigating the mystery of it as there are many inconclusive answers regarding it.

You can view my website here, featuring a production blog of the journey as well as my full documentary: https://fursiyah7.wixsite.com/my-site

I'm also currently in the research stages of my dissertation and will soon begin to write it as it's due in May. I am so still trying to achieve my 60 wpm (words per minute) shorthand, which is harder than it looks and is as hard as it sounds!

My thoughts on final year so far

As you'd presume, it has been busy, stressful, overwhelming... deadlines upon deadlines. Nevertheless, I've tried to manage myself and my studies in a way where I'm not necessarily left burnt out or feeling overly stressed as some stress is normal to feel.

We've now entered the new year of 2022 with only four months left of university. I can't believe how quick time has gone by! I'm excited to see what the future holds whilst simultaneously feeling sad to be finishing and leaving it all - it's a bittersweet moment, but I will be missing it.

I will update you on how I'm progressing so far throughout the year. Stay tuned.
